The Art Of Not Knowing

To say that I'm not a fan of uncertainty would be an understatement, but there is a gift in embracing the unknown because when everything is uncertain, anything is possible!

Humans are wired for certainty but all that certainty is really just false security. The truth is we never really know what is going to happen. Often times what we think if an obstacle can actually turn out to be the best thing we never knew we needed.

So what if we replaced fear of the unknown with curiosity and excitement?!

Getting fired or dumped could be a bitter ending or the beginning of an even better adventure. Does it have to be either? Can it be both?

More importantly can it just be … unknown?

Letting there be room for not knowing is the most important thing of all ... We call something bad; we call it good. But really we just don’t know.

making friends with uncertainty

Lately try as I might unanswered questions seem to keep showing up in my life.

In one way or another, most of us are searching for some form of certainty: a sense of security that comes with being "right", knowing the answer, or having a plan ... and that is especially true for me!

Jumping into a big work project, going for a long run, a booked social calendar, a solid Netflix binge, Instagram scrolling, opening a bottle of wine ... it's amazing how quickly I can distract myself from having to sit with the uncomfortable unknown.

I'm not sure if it's by choice or by force, but I'm learning to relax and allow myself to look at things with curiosity not certainty.  To allow room for the not knowing because often it’s the moments in the middle that are the most beautiful.

Maybe things won’t work out exactly as planned,

but maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.
